Vision

To enrich the HKBU experience by cultivating a vibrant culture of reading, creativity, and meaningful dialogue.

Purpose

The purpose of the Book Culture Club (BCC) is to facilitate engaging learning experiences around “book culture” and related themes to contribute to the best student experience, academic excellence, and whole person education.

History of BCC

A collaboration founded by two library supporters, Prof. Chan Kwok Bun (Sociology) and Dr. Lo Wai Luk (Academy of Film), and the Library, the BCC was established with the idea of promoting a “book culture” at HKBU. The foundation of the BCC is the belief that nurturing a club that treasures reading, writing, and publishing good books enhances the humanistic spirit of the HKBU community. The hope is that through the work of the BCC, the intellectual and humanistic climate of the HKBU community will become more colourful and satisfying, which contributes to whole person education.

Inspiring Literary Connections: Celebrating the Multiple Facets of Books

BCC cultivates a vibrant community that celebrates the diverse elements involved in the creation of books. Activities not only feature lectures, discussions, and book signings, but also hands-on workshops pertaining to book and related arts.

BCC connects the HKBU community in a welcoming environment, fostering literary appreciation through active workshops, dialogues, and engagement.

Connect and Collaborate with Us!

HKBU has many fine authors and artists in our midst, as signified by the Chinese calligraphy in our logo, written by the late renowned poet and calligrapher Mr. Chen Yi Yu.  Book Culture Club events provide HKBU authors and creatives with an opportunity to establish a public identity, and to gain recognition and appreciation.

While we welcome community involvement beyond HKBU, collaboration across the University and with our alumni is a vital priority. Please contact us if you are interested in presenting or facilitating a BCC event.
